The Basketmaker in East Anglia

Unregarded, but essential for daily life, basketmaking reflects the changing social and economic activity of the region. The four counties, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, have had a large willow related industry connected with agriculture, trade, fishing and domestic life. The decline of many of these industries in the 1960’s and 70’s and closure of the remaining large workshops have produced radical changes, but remaining is a thriving, diverse craft with a number of busy individual workshops making to customer demand.
